Learn How To Choose The Best Maldive Resort

Travel Tips

If you are planning a trip to the Maldives the most important decision you will make is what resort to go to. There are rather sever restrictions on foreign travel outside of resorts in the Maldives, and so you need to choose wisely or you will basically be stuck there.

There are numerous websites and blogs offering beautiful photos of bikini clad beautiful women on empty white sand beaches, and yes this is almost exactly what the Maldives is like. There is an over abundance of white sand beaches and almost every resort has at least one of its own, so this shouldn’t really impress you when choosing a resort.

What you really do need to think about is the kind of resort you want to stay at, and with this the type of holiday you want to have. Are you going for a relaxing weekend with your wife, a romantic weekend with your fiancé significant other? Will you be taking the kids?

Before you decide where you are staying you need to have a good clear idea of exactly what you are going to be doing, with whom and of course how much money are you willing to spend. There are resorts that cater almost entirely for the diving crowd, there are others that are family oriented and thus you can expect there to be a large number of noisy kids running around.

The Maldives are not a cheap holiday, you will rarely if ever see a backpack during your stay, and there are very few budget accommodation options. However, there is still a huge variation in what you can expect to pay depending on the resort type you choose. The Maldives offer everything from a standard hotel / resort situation to the extremes of high style where your every whim is attended to, but you have to be willing (and able) to pay for it.

Ecotourism is not a huge industry on the islands as yet, and it is very important that you research any company offering ‘ecotourist’ holidays as there are plenty of operators that pay lip service to the ideal and little else. That said there are a few resorts that offer environmentally friendly lodging and sustainable development.

Overall there is something for everyone in the Maldives as long as you plan ahead, do a little research you will truly have the holiday of a lifetime.

You can find more info on Maldives Resorts here. I personally recommend a stay at the Medhufushi Island Resort.
